FAMILY MATH NIGHTS

Host a Math Festival for your Family Math Night. Math Festivals help students build confidence, joy, and a sense of belonging around math. At a Math Festival, students and families explore a variety of hands-on, play-based math puzzles and games.

We help communities across the country host Math Festivals in three ways:
  1. 1) Hire JRMF
  2. 2) Purchase a Kit
  3. 3) Use our free DIY guides

Three Ways to Host a Math Festival

Hire JRMF
If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area or Vancouver, CA, we can host a Math Festival at your school. We bring all the supplies, lead a volunteer training, set up, and make sure your event runs smoothly.

Cost: $800, with financial assistance available for Title 1 schools.

Purchase a Kit
Our Math Festival Kits come with reusable, hands-on supplies for 10 different activities that can serve over 100 students at one time. We purchase and sort manipulatives, print and organize documents, and prepare all your Math Festival materials so that you can host a festival right out of the box.

Steps to Hosting a Math Festival

Meet with Us
Start your event planning by setting up a free consultation with us. We'll share everything you need to know to host a successful Math Festival and answer any questions you may have. You can set up a free consultation by going to jrmf.org/consult.
Pick a Date
The next step is to pick a date and time for your event. We can host a Math Festival during the day as an assembly or after school as a family math night. Events can take place on any day of the week (including weekends) and at any time.
Find Helpers
The average Math Festival needs 10-20 volunteers from your community. Volunteers can be parents, teachers, or older students (as young as 4th or 5th graders). There's no background required for volunteers, just a desire to share joyful math with kids.

Apply for Financial Assistance

Need help funding your math festival? JRMF along with two of our partner organizations offer scholarships and grants to help make your event as affordable as possible:

  1. JRMF offers grants through its Math Festival Grant Fund. Any Title 1 school in Monterey or the San Francisco Bay Area is eligible to apply. If your school receives a Math Festival Grant, JRMF will cover 100% of the cost of hosting a math festival. A trained JRMF team member will bring all of the supplies to your school, set up, lead a volunteer training, and make sure your event runs as smoothly as possible. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
  2. Math Medic Foundation offers a grant for school-wide initiatives, like math festivals, that support students’ math education. The next deadline for this grant is Apr 24, 2023 and applicants will be notified of decisions by May 19, 2023.
  3. CMC’s Student Activity Trust Fund offers a scholarship for school-wide organized math activities, including math festivals. CMC’s scholarship covers up to half the cost of a math festival, and applications for their scholarship are reviewed every January and September.
