Skona Brittain

Mathemalinguist

Skona Brittain lives in Santa Barbara, where she runs two companies, SB Family School and SB Crafts.

Skona has master's degrees in Mathematics from Princeton and Computer Science from Penn., and taught at various colleges before becoming a mom and switching to teach younger kids, including her homeschooled daughters.

At SB Family School, she offers math enrichment – Math Circles, Math Teams, and Math Camps – for grades 3-12. As a volunteer, she tutors math to disadvantaged kids, which she started doing in high school.

SB Crafts sells mathematical crafts, including the first-ever clock that substituted mathematical expressions for the hour numbers, as well as over 20 variations, and fun, pedagogical games that Skona has designed.

Skona also has many years of experience copyediting: of advanced computer science texts for major publishers; of books she just enjoys reading for their authors; and, as a volunteer, of newsletters for non-profit organizations.

When she’s not doing math (and sometimes even when she is), Skona can be found swimming in the Pacific.
